PRETTY AS A PICTURE: THE ART OF DAVID LYNCH reveals an artist deeply in love with the creative process, from writing and directing, to composing, painting, furniture-building, sculpting, photography, and always something new. "Ideas are the best things going", David likes to say. This 80 minute documentary explores his passionate pursuit of ideas and their creative fulfillment.
DAVID LYNCH has given us the nightmare world of "Eraserhead"; the touching and powerful film version of "The Elephant Man"; the hauntingly beautiful "Blue Velvet"; and the highly popular, distinctly different, "Twin Peaks". This entertaining documentary offers a rare glimpse of the filmmaker at work on his most recent picture "Lost Highway". From working on location with the crew and cast including Bill Pullman, Patricia Arquette, Robert Loggia, Robert Blake and others, to composing the score with musical mentor Angelo Badalamenti, we discover the creative force behind Lynch's work. A special Eraserhead reunion provides a fitting tribute to his long-time friend and favorite actor Jack Nance. Other interviews include Dean Stockwell who tells how he developed the character of Ben in Blue Velvet, and a special appearance from Mel Brooks who hired David, "...right then and there," to direct "The Elephant Man". In addition to numerous clips from "Lost Highway", excerpts from "Twin Peaks" and "Blue Velvet" are included with clips from Lynch's earliest works: "Six Men Getting Sick", "The Alphabet", "The Grandmother", and "Eraserhead".
The special 80-minute home video version of "Pretty as a Picture: the Art of David Lynch" packaged in limited edition sleeve. Unlike the distributor's sleeve sold worldwide, this features a Lynch painting entitled "Rat Meat Bird", the metamorphosis of which is chronicled in the documentary.
